EduKick Alumnus Duncan McCormick Signs with Sounders 2

Duncan McCormick - Sounders
Duncan McCormick, from Seattle, Washington, spent the 2010/11 season at the EduKick Madrid Academy and is now one of the first two players chosen for the Sounders 2 inaugural season in the USL.

“It’s good to be a part of this program, especially in the first year,” said McCormick. “I see a ton of positive things coming along and it’s going to be a great stepping stone to get to the First Team. I wasn’t ready to make that jump from the Academy right away, but this allows me to do my business with S2 to hopefully make the move eventually.”

At the age of 19, McCormick has started all 29 games for the Academy U-18 side in the 2013-2014 US Soccer Development Academy season. He also scored a total of seven goals season and helped his team to the top with 1st place in the USSDA Western Conference.

Duncan tweeted this image shortly after signing on.

“Signing the team’s first two players is a momentous occasion,” said S2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz about Duncan and his new teammate Amadou Sanyang. “Duncan and Amadou represent some of the key building blocks of S2. Duncan is a young Academy product who’s a total team guy and has a lot of upside.”

McCormick, during his time at EduKick Madrid, had the opportunity to play for Spanish Third Division side Colemenar Viejo.

“My time spent with EduKick Madrid made me a much more well-rounded player and person on and off the field.” McCormick told EduKick. “I give much of the credit for my recent success to those who in Madrid who helped me develop my skills. Training at an elite level everyday in Madrid has prepared me for the future, and it couldn’t have been with a better group people.”

Real Life Stories

In this case, we brought in Keith Rees to give real life stories and advice to the players. Keith is the Development and Recruitment Officer as well as Goalkeeper for Everton FC. He is a major participant in the English football system.
Keith spent the whole day at the school and spoke for an hour with the players. He offered them them insight into the values and ethos of the academy at Everton FC. He unfolded for them how communication works between staff and players about expectations and performance.
Pictures of our fantastic 2014/2015 year.
Neil Garside, EduKick Manchester Head Coach/BTEC Tutor, spent the last few months on these topics, so it helped to cements these principles into the minds of the student players.

Future Opportunities

As with all the experts we bring in, Keith’s wealth of knowledge brought much to the table. Not only his knowledge of the game, but also what he’s learned from his role at Everton, as an FA assessor of coaches, as a coach mentor, having worked with many top level players and working with Team GB at the Olympics.
We look forward to seeing Keith again, in 2015, as he has invited us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Academy.

The fantastic development that comes from so many student-players is the intercultural exchange and appreciation that happens between aspiring soccer players from so many countries.
In Manchester, this last year, we accepted 28 players from a total of 21 different countries. That experience encourages these young players to learn even more to work as a team.

EduKick Madrid

At EduKick Madrid, in Spain, our students train daily under the EduKick technical Spanish coaches. To further their training they are inserted into a local team, gaining additional training and weekend match play.
This intercultural exchange with Spanish footballers benefits EduKick participants immensely both in their language development and in their football training.
Students from the United States are able to study US Accredited High School Online Distance Learning (in English), and EduKick provides WiFi access in all accommodations to allow student-players the ability to study online in their own languages.

EduKick Manchester

In England, EduKick is able to obtain Student Visas for all of its students to allow them to legally live and study there for the duration of the course.
